16/4 - Linear and Non Linear Narratives

2004946

A couple days ago I drew the storyboard for my film idea, but today I wanted to work on trying different narratives.

Like previous projects I photocopied the storyboard I had drawn, and then cut the scenes up, and created different orders for the film to follow. Being able to physically move the different scenes around made me think of narratives I hadn’t considered before.

The original idea I had was the follow the story of a couple meeting for the first time, and showing the gradual decline in feelings towards each other , until their final breakup.

Idea #1:

Idea #1, non-linear narrative.

This narrative is the opposite of the original plot, with a couple breaking up and a new one forming.

Idea #2:

Idea #2, non-linear narrative.

This narrative follows a similar one to the original, but at the end it shows the man offering the woman a coffee, leaving the story on a cliffhanger to see whether the couple could get back together or not.

Idea #3:

Idea #3, non-linear narrative.

This narrative follows a couple breaking up, but at the end, the woman meets another man.

Conclusion:

Overall, working with different narratives has definitely given me ideas that I wouldn’t have necessarily thought of before. I will consider these when it comes to filming and editing in the next few weeks.
