Today I filmed the scenes for my short film, I will make another blog post about different elements and shots, as well as processes to my day.
But I thought I would show some of the inspiration behind shots I filmed today.
Kuleshov:
In The Father, there are a few scenes of Anthony looking out the window, either followed by or shown after a series of still shots of the flat. The stills of the flat show subtle changes over time, that Anthony doesn’t realise until it’s drastically different.
But I liked the Kuleshov effect of Anthony looking out of the window, as we see him smiling to himself and see what it is that he’s looking at. I thought I would include a scene similar to that in my own film.
Scenes from The Father (2020), Anthony looking out the window
Draft #1 from my own film, looking out onto his garden
Draft #2 from my own film, looking at dogs walking by
I will then follow this scene with still shots of his own house, that i also filmed today, but for now this is the Kuleshov effect.
As you can see the scenes from my own film are very similar to those in The Father, but I wanted create the same effect. I might edit the shot out of the window to make it something a bit more interesting that he’s looking at, rathe than just a still shot of his garden or dogs walking, but these are only the first two drafts of the scene so far.
