Colour Grading 12/1/22

During my lunch break i decided to practise more colour correcting/grading, as i am interested by it and i want to expand my skills.

I got a few royalty free videos from Pexels and other free stock video sites, and watched some youtube videos to remind me of the basics of colour correction.

I wanted the overall effect of the videos to be high contrast, with a moody vibe and reduced saturation on bright colours. Here's the before and after of some videos i edited.

(to make the swiping reveal effect i just layered the before clip over the after clip and made a mask which i added keyframes to and changed the position so it revealed the clip underneath)

To do this i started off with basic colour correction (white balance/hue/saturation/whites and blacks), then created a deep S curve for the contrast, and then using the hue vs sat and hue vs hue sliders, reduced the opacity of the colours of choice depending on the video.

I also created a mask which i increased the contrast of even more and placed at the bottom of the clip to make a gradient -like effect. I made sure the feathering of the mask was increased to make it blend into the video.

Overall i'm quite happy with the effects i managed to create on the videos i downloaded, but i am definitely going to keep practising and trying to get better, or finding different new effect to create.
