Colour grading like Pans Labyrinth 14/1/22

Using the things i had learnt while watching videos on colour grading on Youtube, i decided to try and colour grade a random bit of footage i had on my camera, and try to match the colour grading used in 'Pans Labyrinth'.

Pans Labyrinth uses a complementary colour palette, using blue and orange to their full effect throughout the film. Duelling colours are often associated with internal or external conflict. The complementary colours combine warm and cool colours to produce a high-contrast, vibrant tension in the film.*

His complimentary colours represent the balanced, yet competing worlds, the mundane and the fantastical. Dark blues are also used in Pans Labyrinth during the night time to emphasise the cold, melancholy feeling throughout the film.

This is the clip i used for reference:

Scene from Pans Labyrinth where Ofelia discovers the Labyrinth for the first time.

Because of this, i found a royalty free video, and downloaded it to colour grade.

In the video you can see a before and after of how the video ended up looking like.

Here's a screen recording showing some of the process making the video, i did make adjustments and add another gradient mask over the top after ending the screen recording. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

There is obviously a few things i could have improved about the clip, for example making it a bit more blue, but because i am still learning, i didn't know how i could have made the clip more blue without it looking like something out of Smurfs.
