Horror/Comedy Films 9/12/21

Foley is a unique sound effect technique that involves creating and 'performing' everyday sounds for movies and television shows. Foley artists create these sounds in a recording studio post-production, in synchrony with the picture, to enhance the quality of the audio.

Foley is the art of sound, making sounds in sync with the sounds on the screen. When watching a film, your ears are hearing what you expect them to sound like, when really it's something completely different, for examples gloves with paperclips is dog paws, pinecones for ice cracking, cornstarch for snow crunching, etc.

For some scenes foley artists layer different sounds on top of each other to create the effect they want. You understand the characters situation through the sounds they're making/ sounds around them. Without sounds you might not feel as connected to the character or the storyline.

Today we put our clips together in Premiere Pro, and worked with sound to see how the mood changes when you change the sound effects in the film.

I collected multiple audios from royalty free websites, that i thought could be useful for adding effect in my film. For the horror version of my film i got suspenseful horror drone sounds, as well as scared breathing sounds, and elevator doors opening and the ball rolling. These used together and layered onto each other i think helps to add to the suspense and fear in the film.

Here is my final horror version of my film:

Unfortunately i didn't have time to create the comedy version of my film, but it was interesting to see how different audios can effect the mood of a film.
