Rotoscoping is a skill that animators use to create animation, where they trace over a motion video frame by frame. They used to project the image onto a glass panel and trace over it to get drawings. Max Fleischer invented rotoscoping to help animation become smoother and more realistic to view. By tracing each frame, the animation picks up more human-like movements and it isn't so blocky.
Modern rotoscoping is used on computer software like Photoshop and After Effects. Some popular film examples which have use rotoscoping is: Star Wars (the lightsabers are created using rotoscoping), Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, etc.
