In preparation to make my photobook, I have been looking for images that incorporate text within it, and I came across different examples that I will be taking inspiration from when making my own picture booklet:
1) Incorporating bold shapes using different colours.
I found these images that use bold coloured shapes like hollow rectangles, lines and circles, that work their way in between the images to make them pop. They use colours from the images, and use them in the shapes to make a bolder statement. The text however is plain black, in contrast with the white background and the bright colours. Text is on the border of the page, and don't interfere with the images.
2) Using handwritten text to create a sentimental piece.
Annotating images, to give off a scrapbook-like impression in my photobook. It links with the emotional vibe I want to give across to the viewer with my Nan Goldin inspired photos, and I could add an even more sentimental, personal feeling to my photobook by using this type of text. I would annotate the images online, using the Wacom tablet to actually write different words, as that way I can undo my writing if I need to.
3) Bending text, rather than having it in straight lines.
Bending text around a certain image, or even using text to create lines in a certain image, would give off a more fun and interesting design to text rather than straight lines. This could be used to emphasise a certain message, by repeating the same words/sentence over and over again to create long lines; or could be used to emphasise a certain part of the image.
4) Using black & white images, with red text.
Red has always been used in propaganda to make a big statement and to attract peoples attention, so accompanying red text with black & white images would make it even bolder and a good statement maker.
