Because my project is mainly based around colour and incorporating it into my photography, this past week I have been reading into and studying colour psychology and how it affects the mood of people. I've written most of my research into my notebook (you can find it on pages 45-51 and 54-56), but I will share some on here.
Websites I used:
Colours in the red area of the colour spectrum are warm colours. Evoke feelings ranging from warmth and comfort to anger and hostility.
Red: tends to be associated wit negative, danger-bearing emotions, probably because it is the same colour as fire, blood, or dangerous/poisonous animals.
Red can also be associated with aggression/dominance and power, as people go red in the face when they get angry. However on the other hand, it is also related to passion and desire, as studies show red is proven to cause elevated blood pressure, and increased heart rate.
If someone has a bold personality, I could use the colour red in their photos to show that.
Orange: combination of yellow and red and is considered an energetic colour. It is also used to draw attention, as it's used in road signs and announcements.
Excitement/enthusiasm/warmth/energetic/refreshing
Orange is a happy colour as it is associate with sunsets and warm things.
Yellow: an attention-grabbing colour, and also an energetic and warm colour.
Colours in the blue area of the colour spectrum are cool colours. Evoke feelings of calmness, but also feelings of sadness.
Blue: found in nature so tends to be associated with calmness and serenity. however, in other contexts it can sometimes be considered icy/cold and distant.
For my photographs, if I was to use a blue colour gel light I would consider using a deep/mid blue colour rather than an icy blue, after reading the effect this colour has on the emotions of people who are surrounded by it.
Purple: strongly associated with royalty, a wealthy colour? represent wisdom, bravery and spirituality, however darker shades of purple can represent sadness and frustration.
Green: nature - gives off a safe energy. has a calming effect on the mind. Dark green calms people, actors have green rooms before they go on stage, makes them feel like they are surrounded by nature.
Optimistic/natural
If I have a mode with a cam personality, it could be a god idea to use green in the photograph somehow to express them feelings through the photos.
Pink: calming effect, there aren't many negative associations with the colour pink.
Joyful/creative/feminine/vibrant/refreshing/euphoric/joyous
Good idea to try and incorporate pink somehow, as there are no negative feelings surrounding it
