Today i went to Maidstone Studios for the D2D taster session, and to be honest, i was excited to go look there but wasn't considering doing it after this course. However, now that i have been, and learnt a lot more about the course/studios i am 100% considering it.
It was really interesting to see what the course offers, and the fact 80% of students find work in TV before they even finish the course is really impressive. I originally wanted to do a degree in film, but they also mentioned that people who do this course have found their way into work for production companies like Netflix, Marvel, Warner Bros, etc. so because of that i don't think that's a worry for me. Television is also an interest for me.
The thing i liked most about it was the mention of the fact students actually get to work first hand on the shows they film at the studios. For example they mentions a student managed to work for a week as a runner for catchphrase. They also talked out how students have moved up in experience with their work after graduating.
We also did a 1.5hour task of creating our own short film using an actual TV camera and getting in groups with people from the other campuses. It was a bit daunting trying to express my ideas for camera shots etc, to people i didn't know, but it did give me an idea of what it would be like in the actual industry.
Although I do personally want a uni experience, doing the Television course at Maidstone Studios is a really great way to make contacts in the industry and i think doing this course would be a really easy way to get experience and find work after my degree.
